THE PITCH
"BAYNE" is a horror action film set in the shadows of metropolitan Los Angeles, where vampires and werewolves roam the streets unseen and only one man stands in their way...
The character of Bayne, who is part-vampire, part-werewolf, was created by actor/producer Andre "Chyna" McCoy, based in large part on his love of horror movies, martial arts, and comic books. McCoy immediately began plotting an all out blitz for his new character: writing a feature length screenplay, commissioning design work, and even hiring veteran comic artists to begin work on a Bayne comic book series.
The horror-action genre has grown exponentially in popularity over the past few years, eventually expanding from video store shelves into theaters, with hit films such as "VAN HELSING," "UNDERWORLD" and the "BLADE" series.
"I was inspired to create Bayne as a response to what was being done in the horror genre," McCoy explains, "Vampires are always the centerpiece and the werewolves don't get any respect. I've loved werewolves ever since I saw "HOWLING" and "AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON" when I was growing up... they're cooler for me." With Bayne, McCoy has created a character and story which moves the lycanthrope species front and center.
After shooting the independent action film "GAME OVER," McCoy approached the film's director, Peter Sullivan, about joining the "BAYNE" team. Like McCoy, Sullivan had grown up with a steady diet of horror films, including the Hammer Films library, and works of contemporary filmmakers such as Wes Craven and John Carpenter. What attracted him to "BAYNE" was the opportunity to direct the type of film he'd always loved, as well as McCoy's initial pitch.
"I liked it because it wasn't your typical gothic horror film," Sullivan explains. "We've seen the old, decaying gothic city in "UNDERWORLD" and "THE CROW." Bayne lives in a very modern, metropolitan city. The film truly takes this wonderful, timeless character and puts him into our present reality. What a great idea... that all these creatures are among us and we don't even know it."
The producers are currently in pre-production on a self-contained short film based on a scene from the feature screenplay. Once the short film is completed, it will assist them in securing financing for the ambitious feature length film. For more information on this, please see the "WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR" section of this proposal.
"BAYNE: THE SHORT FILM" will be filmed over a 6 day shooting schedule in the summer of 2004. Taking advantage of visually diverse neighborhoods in and around downtown Los Angeles, including Chinatown and an old power plant, the film will have a rich palette that is both modern and atmospheric.
SYNOPSIS
Los Angeles. Present day.
A serial killer, nicknamed "the Angel of Death," has the city on alert. Assigned to the case is a recent transplant from England, homicide detective SHARON HIGHTOWER. "The Angel of Death" is as mysterious as he is elusive, and tracking him down proves to be the biggest challenge of her career.
But "the Angel of Death" is not what he appears. He's a self-proclaimed immortal killer, protecting the people of the city from the vampires and werewolves who walk among them.
His name is Bayne.
Meanwhile, across town, the city's biggest dealer in biblical artifacts, LORD VLADMIR, is secretly sending out his henchmen looking for the AJANTI CROSS. The cross itself is an ancient gold replica of Christ's cross, with His blood encased in the center. The pieces are scattered throughout the city, buried in the infrastructure of a forgotten age, long since paved over by progress and new development.
With a small drop of blood from a Vampere, a pureblood vampire king, the mystical Ajanti Cross can grant the powers of a demi god. This is Vladmir's true goal. Because, behind the scenes of his lavish lifestyle and notoriety, Vladmir rules the city's underworld with an iron blood fist. With the cross, Vladmir could ascend to the throne of Vampire King.
And only Bayne stands in his way.
As Detective Hightower zeroes in on her target, she quickly becomes exposed to a world she'd heard about in bedtime stories as a child, but never believed existed.
Until now.
And now she's a part of it, drawn into an eternal struggle between good and evil and a race against time to find the artifact with the power to decide the victor... once and for all.
